Writer's Block

I have been trying to write my personal statement for the cardiology fellowship for the past two days. I am in the midst of the biggest writer's block in my life. I have clearly been emerced in scientific jargon for too long and can't even make single sentence sound human, warm or remotely interesting. Thus, I have vowed to return to reading non-medical books and sharpen my artsy skills which, at one time, I actually possessed. This does not help me right now, though. I have wasted the better part of the weekend surfing the web, reading poetry, fantasizing and in general tried to avoid making any real progress. I did read several charpters of "On Doctoring", a free book given to medical students by the Robert Wood Foundation several years ago. I have tried to draw inspiration from the likes of Osler, Broyard, and Frost, but it now is painfully clear to me reading and enjoying litereture does not instantly produce a good WRITER!! I am quite frustrated and actually prefer to rant on the blag than to continue working on the statement. Yikes!
